A Comparative Study of the Establishment of International Peace in the light of Seerah and Western Thought
Keywords:
International Peace, Conflict Resolution, Justice and Reconciliation, Prophet Muhammad’s Approach to Peace, Islamic Conflict Management, Western ThoughtAbstract
This study adopts a textual and documentary research methodology, primarily employing a descriptive-analytical approach to explore mechanisms and methods of peaceful conflict resolution found in both Islamic sources and international law. The objective is to trace, analyze, and compare the frameworks offered by Islamic teachings and modern legal instruments for resolving disputes peacefully. The research is specifically limited to selected provisions of the United Nations Charter—namely, Article 2 (clauses 1, 2, 3, and 4), Article 33 (clause 1), and Article 43 (clauses 1, 2, and 3). Judicial mechanisms are deliberately excluded from this study, allowing for a focused comparison between international legal norms and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as demonstrated in his Seerah.
The article seeks to contribute to the discourse on international peace by conducting a comparative analysis between the Prophetic model and Western political thought. It aims to answer critical questions such as: How can the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) be applied to modern international relations? What are the key similarities and differences between the Prophetic approach to peace and the principles found in Western political traditions? In what ways can both perspectives help address the global challenges of conflict, diplomacy, and justice?
By examining the key principles of peacebuilding in the Seerah—emphasizing justice, reconciliation, and diplomacy—and evaluating the dominant strategies of conflict resolution in Western thought, the study aims to provide a nuanced understanding of both traditions. Furthermore, it explores the relevance and applicability of these principles in addressing contemporary international crises. Through this integrated analysis, the research aspires to present a framework in which Islamic and Western perspectives may collaboratively contribute to the pursuit of lasting global peace in an increasingly interconnected and conflict-prone world.
